Abstract

The role of peers in the formation of independent character of each student is very important and influential. In accordance with the environment of students who are always spent with their peers every day, there is also the formation of knowledge, attitudes and independent behavior of students that are embedded in each student. The purpose of this study was to explore the role of peers in forming knowledge about independent character in students of Ar-Rohman Tegalrejo Islamic Boarding School. This research method was carried out using a qualitative approach in classes VIII and XI MTs Ar-Rohman Tegalrejo Semen Nguntoronadi Magetan, with data collection procedures through observation, interview and documentation techniques. The results of the study showed that the results of the data analysis obtained that the knowledge of independent character of students of Ar-Rohman Tegalrejo Islamic Boarding School was not only obtained through formal instructions from ustad and ustazah, but also through observation and direct experience in the Islamic boarding school environment with peers so that it has a crucial role in forming independent behavior of students. Independence in terms of doing assignments, decision making, to self-management, is influenced by examples and encouragement from peers. Friends who are independent become role models who are naturally imitated by other students.
