In learning Arabic, there are four skills taught, or commonly known as four containers of maharah, namely maharah istima or listening skills, maharah qiro'ah or reading skills, maharah kitabah or writing skills, and maharah kalam or speaking skills. This study examines the implementation of the Pegon Arabic reference method in improving the qiroah skills of students at Darul Takdzim Islamic Boarding School, Sukoharjo. The Pegon Arabic reference method is a local tradition that utilizes symbols to translate Arabic texts into Javanese, which is used in learning the yellowclassical books. This research uses a descriptive qualitative approach with a case study strategy, collecting data through interviews and observations. The results showed that the implementation of the Pegon Arabic reference method at Darul Takdzim Islamic Boarding School has succeeded in improving the reading ability of students in understanding the yellowclassical books. Santri who initially had difficulty reading bare books are now able to read fluently and understand the contents of the text. Although there are challenges such as differences in the language and cultural backgrounds of students, the Pegon Arabic reference method has proven effective in improving the quality of qiroah learning in Islamic boarding schools. This research highlights the importance of local methods in improving the ability to read the yellowIslamic classic books and passing on the tradition of Islamic learning in Indonesia.
